it's more than art
To me this is more than art.
I remember being a kid and imagining what life would look like if I was written into a fairy tale. Where the flowers would speak in riddles and the trees would dance to whispers in the wind. I’d escape into worlds made up in my mind and hope each morning that I would wake up to the sight of endless meadows and dancing pixies.
Alas, I would rise each morning unable to see the one I dreamt of. Art started to become my way to see a world I wished to create, and as a tool to try and figure out who I really wanted to be.
At first I couldn't draw the images in my mind very well and began drawing the things around me. I struggled to find the beauty in them. I felt disconnected to everything I was surrounded by. As though I was placed in the wrong day, in the wrong time.
As I grew, I divided my attention upon other paths. Sport, career, to becoming a high school dropout in hopes I could work on the big screen. I attempted to pursue makeup and special effects, as films became the one place I could be immersed in my desires. That too was short lived.
I began to question everything. Nothing made sense.
I felt as though my life was being chosen for me by the societal pressures I was surrounded by.
I soon ventured back into study, and figured I wished nothing more than to create.
I feel as though I’ve trekked through the cosmos to get to where I am today.
Art for me, is about exploring the depth of being a human who has never felt as though I had a place in this world.
It is about extracting my child's innocence, my adolescent fear and my adult love.
For my pain I paint, For my worry I write and for my daring need to “fit”, I draw.
I do not fear this world anymore, but I do not wish to abide by man made lore.
I wish to love myself as I am. I wish to harness my emotions and use them for good.
This is more than art.
And this is more than myself as an artist.
